Q & AThe college I work at inherited a large greenhouse (3,500 s/f) with a concrete floor. Would the most efficient way to utilize space be to build raised beds on top of the concrete with landscape timbers throughout the facility rather than using pots on tables?

A:

If you are going to be growing containerized plants (i.e. pots, or plastic packs) then it really doesn’t matter. If you wish to grow food crops or cut flowers then raised beds are best and can easily convert to containerized production (as long as you keep an eye out for slugs). If you build tables consider using 55 gallon drums filled with water to support the tables and add some energy efficiency to the space.
